LIBRARY
The library is on the first –floor of the newly-built two-storied building of the collage. There are two separate reading rooms for the students and the teachers. The students and the teachers can go through their books and papers in a clam and quiet atmosphere there. The liberty is enriched by a collection of about twenty six thousand valuable books including text-books and reference books. A huge number of journals and magazines of both indigenous and foreign publications and University examinations have been carefully preserved. Important books of Master-degree course of different subjects are also classified here for the reading pleasure and information of both the teachers and the taught. To attract the students in using the library, there is a system of compulsory liberty card. Students are provided with a ‘Reading Room Card' for the reading of the library and one ‘Home-lending Card'. Honours students of different subjects and depending upon the available of books general students can take out on lone one book for fifteen days by producing their ‘Book-lending Card', and if there is no demand from the other students for that very book ,they can keep the book for fifteen more days. All the students are bound to return their books, taken from the library, before filling up the forms for the final examination.
The library remains open for the students on week days from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the morning section and from 11 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. for the day section. The Library for the benefit of all has recently been computerized.
LABORATORY
Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan has highly equipped Physics, Chemistry, Statistics and Biology (Botany / Zoology) labs.
 
GAMES & RECREATION
There are two big play grounds, a concrete pitch laid down for cricket practice, equipments for football, volleyball etc.. The university often supplies physical instructors whenever the college sends requisition for one.
Sports kits are supplied. Proficiency certificates and special medals are given to encourage gifted sports persons.
COMPUTER
Offices, laboratories, library are all computerised for providing faster and better services.
 
GIRLS' HOSTEL
A Girls' Hostel has been built with the UGC Special Grant and collage Development Fund. This new hostel girl students from distant places to pursue their studies in this institution, an opportunity which many desiring candidates have so long missed because of this infrastructure-related inadequacy. The Girls' Hostel, named after and dedicated to madam Curie, is the newest feather in our cap.
 
SCHOLARSHOP & STIPENDS
Financial assistance is provided to needy and meritorious students through various scholarships and stipends by the Government. SC/ST students get special financial assistance through various scholarships. Students also get aid from the Government through ‘Jatiya Rin Brtti Prokolpa'.Over and above all this, needy and meritorious students get the opportunity to study in this collage with full/half free studentship on the basis of their merit. The needy and meritorious students can apply of their merit. The needy and meritorious students can apply for these schemes after their admission. All the details of these scholarships and stipends are available from the collage office. A part from the Government and collage aid, students can avail of scholarship and financial aid from some non-Govt. institutions like S.J. Jindal Trust, New Dilhi etc. Students'Union also provides financial aid to the needy and meritorious students from the ‘Students' Aid Fund'.

 
SPACIAL PRIZE
Every year students scoring the highest marks in First year Annual Examination both in Science and Arts syream, are awarded the Baidyanath Saha Memorial Prize.
 
GUARDIANS' CELL
Recently a guardians' committee has been set up o interact with the teachers and intimate then about the progress of the students at home thus bringing the teacher taught relation to a meaningful circle.
 
FREE MEDICAL UNIT
Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan, is one of the very few collages in India to provide free medical assistance to its students and staff. A panel of reputed doctors provide free medical advice on production of a medical card supplied to the students and staff. Our medical term includes.

STUDENTS' PLACEMENT AND COUNSELLING CELL
Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya has the distinction of having a students' Placement and Counselling Cell, which runs throughout the year for the benefit of the students. Relevant information regarding admission to different institutes of higher education and institutes of excellence are passed on to our students from time to time for their benefit. Career counselling sessions are organized and students are kept thoroughly updated with information relating to career advancement and job opportunities in different fields of studies.

Teachers are given the responsibility of locating different types of challenged learners. Learners challenged due to social and/ or familial reasons are personally dealt with by the Counselling cell and the collage authority tries to support these students in pursuing their studies fulfilling their aims. Sometimes social, familial, economic and emotional pressures account for excess stress leading to psychological handicaps, which jeopardize the studies and career prospects of some students. The collage, in such cases, organizes conselling camps for such students free to cost
Renowned psychiatrists like Dr. Basudev Mukarjee of the Pavlov Institue, kolkata and Dr. Debashis Koner, a noted Consultant, have extended their services in this regard. Dr. Mainak mukarjee ,another reputed Psychiatrist has kindly consented to be a member of our QAC and has willingly planning counselling sessions for the benefit of the students of institution. We humbly mention that Vevekananda mahavidyalaya, Burdwan, is one of the very few collages in the entire country to provide such service to the student community.


NATIONAL CADET CROPS
There are units of National cadet crops- one for the boys and the other for the girls, in this collage. Captain Prof. Mrinal Kanti Ghosh is in this charge of the boys' battalion. This unit is running since 1965. The cadets generally undergo normal NCC training and attend different state level and all India camps time to time like CAT, Tre-RDC,NC-Day Camp, Army Attachment, NIC, Adv, Leadership Camp, Trekking etc. and have to sit for Certificate-‘B', ‘C' examinations. The Cadets also participate in various social activities and awareness programmes. The Cadet WBSD/2000/100291 rank JUO Sk. Tobarak attended Republic Day Camp at New Delhi on January 2003. Students are now getting more and more interested in having NCC training. Indeed it is a means for mental and physical development for the youth in a disciplined manner.
This year the cadet, WBSD/03/200448 JUO, Sudip Basak got though opportunity to join National Integration Camp (NIC) at Lakshadip Islands and WBSD/0/100465 CSM. Sikandar Mahato underwent Mountaineering training under the guidance of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling WB. The profile of ‘success for Certificate-‘B' and ‘Certificate – C' examinations this year is 70% and 67% respectively.
Since 1985 Lt. Prof. Swapan Ghosh has taken charge of the Girls' unit N.C.C. of Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya and this unit is sincerely performing its activities. The two cadets who had tried their best for the growth and development of the Girls' Unit of the collage are Swapan Majumder and Reba Ghosh. The names of successful cadets who have got the rare opportunity of attending Republic Day camp and Basic Leadership camp are Sianti Bhattacharya, Gitasree samanta, Tapasi Das, Pritima Roy and Jhamuna Chakraborty. Sgt. Mafuza Sahana attended National Integration camp in Gwalior (2002) and got award. Sgt. Kausor Jahan stood second in best cadet competition and also got medal in mountaineering. J.U.O Sulochona Samanta attended Republic day parade on 26th January, 2003 in New Delhi and she was specially awarded Governor's medal. Students are requested to join N.C.C.as early as possible.
 
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
The NSS unit of Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya run under the leadership of Prof. Jyotirmoy Goswami, Prof. Amaresh Pramanik, Prof. Vivekananda Majilla and Prof. Sachchidananda Roy. It is one of the best units of its kind among the other sister units of other colleges under the University of Burdwan. A selective list in 2004-2005 is given below.
1. in the UTA PHASE II WORKSHOP held in Shillong. Meghalaya (4-6September, 2004)the University of Burdwan was represented by our Programme officer, Sachchidananda Roy.
2. In the pre-Republic Day parade held at Gantok fifteen of our students had participated, a record which has never been surpassed by any other collage under the University in Burdwan.
3. Ms. Payel Ghosh attended the Republic Day Parade Camp held in New Delhi.
4. In The National Integration Camp held on 12 December ten students of our collage had participated out of whom Arindam Choudhuri stood FRIST in Reading of self-composed poetry, Saurav Pal stood FIRST in Monoacting and Kanchan Roy stood SEOND in the DEBATE Competition.
5. Only ten collages in West Bengal were selected to send representatives to the ZONAL AIDS WORKSHOP. The participants of our collage made signification contributions to the Workshop.
6. Ten students of our Collage joined the National Integration Camp at Kalanabagram.
7. 450 students of our collage formed the largest group in the WORLD AIDS DAY rally on 1 Dec. 2004.
8. Two students of our collage gave excellent performances in the NATIONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL, held in Hyderabad from 21-25 Feb, 2005.
9. The NSS unit number 2 has adopted a model village in Bolpur, Gram Panchayat, Hizolla, eight Kms from the town. In the very onset, two hundred meters of mud road has been constructed in the tribal outskirts of the village as a result of which the marginalized periphery has been directly connected to the central road of the village. The sociological impact of this communication link is too significant to be explained in detail here. Two large ponds in the area have been located and the embankments of those two ponds have been strengthened, preventing soil erosion. Pollution control campaigns and AIDS awareness campaigns have been organized involving a large majority of the villagers who have willfully participated in the campaign. For generating literacy drives and motivating the people of the village towards continuing education, the collage is working hard to open a village library as soon as possible and the most significant development in this regard is that one local resident, Mr. Sadhan Dutta, Has very kindly agreed to donate his ancestral house to the proposed library.
 
DEBATING SOCIETY, NATURE CLUB AND MUSIC CHOIR
To give the students a taste of liberty from the shackles of constricting syllabus and its associated load, as well as to encourage students in creative campus activity, the collage has recently opened a Debating Society, a Nature Club and a Music Choir which are running very effectively.
 
QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL
It has become mandatory for collages accredited by NAAC to open up a Quality Assurance Cell which will monitor the steady growth of academic and administrative functioning of the college. As per specifications of NAAC a QAC has been formed in our college and renowned personalities in different fields of activities have readily accepted our invitation to act as Member of our QAC.

COLLEGE EXAMINATION
From the year 2002, Semester Examination system has been introduced in our college to regularly assess the standard of study of our students. In this system, in each semester students have to sit for a test of 33 marks in every subject. The duration of every test is of one hour. The three semester examinations are held respectively in 2nd week of October (1st Sem.), 1st week of February (2nd Sem.) and 2nd week of March (3rd Sem.)
The above – noted schedule is subject to change due to unavoidable circumstances. Students are not permitted to sit for the semester exams. If their attendance in pre-semester classes remains below 50%. If any student fails in the Semester Examinations, or remains absent he/she will not be promoted
